Based out of Camp Buffalo Bill and just 8 miles away from Yellowstone National Park, experience any one of our Five Adventures at a once in a lifetime destination! Make sure to visit Yellowstone, and Grand Teton National Park as part of your visit! Below you will find information about our the program. Your experience will be exciting and one that you’ll remember forever!

PICK YOUR ADVENTURE!

YHAO Backpacking Adventure

Experience a 5-day, 4 night Backpacking Trek in the backcountry of Yellowstone National Park or Shoshone National Forest (America’s 1st National Forest). Hiking between 5-10 miles a day, you’ll complete a 30-45 mile backpacking trek encountering a variety of wildlife that often includes elk, moose, coyotes, wolves, bison, and bears. It is rare to encounter other visitors and the stars at night look amazing.  

Backpacking in Yellowstone is not guaranteed. We will submit for the permits on your behalf. ALL participants MUST be registered in the online system by March 1st. Yellowstone can revoke the permits at any time up to 1 day prior to your arrival. We do not provide refunds for canceled permits. If this unfortunate situation occurs, your unit’s trek will take place in the Shoshone National Forest.

Group Size Shoshone: 4 – 12 individuals, including youth and adults.
Group Size Yellowstone: 4 – 8 individuals, including youth and adults.

YHAO Climbing Adventure

Experience the ultimate climbing adventure! This is an entire week of natural rock climbing at multiple amazing locations throughout the area. You’ll start each morning with breakfast in camp and then you’ll travel to your climbing destination. You’ll climb, eat a packed lunch, climb some more and return to camp in the evening. From bouldering, to rappelling, your arms will feel “pumped” at the end of each day! Wednesday is free day. See below for ideas to make the most of your day! 

Monday: Training & Preparation Day with in-camp climbing and practice.
Tuesday: Top rope climbing at “The Island”, a 100′ free standing granite pillar and climbing mecca with over 100 routes. 
Wednesday: FREE DAY! Plan your day, see recommendations and ideas below.
Thursday: Bouldering at Cedar Mountain. This massive sandstone bouldering field provides never-ending  routes with amazing views of the Bighorn Basin.
Friday: Climb where you want day! With multiple locations available to select, your Troop will pick where they want to go climbing for the day. Your guide will provide ideas and advice.

Group Size: 4 – 12 individuals, including youth and adults.

YHAO Whitewater Adventure

Experience the ultimate whitewater adventure in the heart of rafting country! This is an entire week of rafting at multiple amazing locations throughout the area. Locations are determined by current water levels. You’ll start each morning with breakfast in camp and then you’ll travel to your rafting location. You’ll eat a packed lunch each day and return to camp in the evening. Wednesday is free day. See below for ideas to make the most of your day! 

Monday: Training on the camp lake followed by an afternoon rafting trip on the North Fork of the Shoshone River.
Tuesday: Full day of whitewater rafting. Location depends on current water levels. 
Wednesday: FREE DAY! Plan your day, see recommendations and ideas below.
Thursday: Full day of whitewater rafting. Location depends on current water levels. 
Friday: Full day of whitewater rafting. Location depends on current water levels. 

Group Size: 4 – 12 individuals, including youth and adults.

YHAO Kayak Adventure

Experience a 5-day, 4 night Backcountry Kayaking Trek in the heart of Yellowstone National Park. using 16′ Kayaks, you’ll travel up to 6 hours a day, encountering a variety of wildlife that often includes elk, moose, coyotes, wolves, bison, and bears. You’ll also visit some of the largest thermal features within the park that are not accessible by road. Each afternoon, you’ll set up a new basecamp where you’ll learn about Natural History and Yellowstone National Park. Activities may include fishing, side hikes, and leadership training. 

Sunday: Starting at 3pm, training and safety drills at Buffalo Bill State Park Reservoir, (you will get wet). followed by gear check and food preparations. 
Monday:
Your trek begins. You’ll travel to the park and kayak to your first basecamp.
Tuesday: Full day of kayaking.
Wednesday: Full day of kayaking.
Thursday: Full day of kayaking.  
Friday: Half day of kayaking with return to camp. 

Group Size: 4 – 8 individuals, including youth and adults.

YHAO Rock & River Adventure

Experience the combo! This adventure includes both climbing & whitewater rafting! Two Days of Climbing & Two Days of Whitewater Rafting with a free day in-between! Schedule varies based on weather and river levels. 

Group Size: 4 – 12 individuals, including youth and adults.

 

WEDNESDAY - FREE DAY!

Wednesday is a free day for Climbing & Whitewater Adventures. It is your day to take advantage of the amazing activities and once in a lifetime opportunities located in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. You can leave camp as early as you’d like and we ask that you return to camp before 11pm. Below is a list of ideas to help you plan out your day.
