For more than 100 years, Scouting programs have instilled in youth the values found in the Scout Oath and Scout Law. Today, these values are just as relevant in helping youth grow to their full potential as they were in 1910. Scouting helps youth develop academic skills, self-confidence, ethics, leadership skills, and citizenship skills that influence their adult lives.
For major growth, you need major gifts. They are critical to Scouting’s future, whether current or deferred, general or specific. The Adventure West Council, Boy Scouts of America understands the difference between a transaction and a relationship. Attentiveness to our individual donors is at the heart of all we do. Through relationships we listen and craft philanthropy with our investors so they may direct funds to their specific interests in Scouting.
James E. West Fellowship
James E. West was the first Chief Scout Executive of the Boy Scouts of America. He served in that position for more than three decades. Many individuals and corporations make gifts to our council endowment. Often these gifts are made on behalf of someone else—such as in honor of an Eagle Scout, Silver Beaver recipient, a retirement, a special accomplishment, an anniversary, or in memory of a special individual.
To Become a Fellow
A gift to our local council, designated by the donor to our council endowment fund, qualifies for membership as a James E. West fellow. The gift must be in addition to— and not replace or diminish—the donor’s annual Investment in Character & Leadership support. A minimum gift of $1000 in cash or marketable securities qualifies for the Bronze level membership. Gifts can be paid in full or spaced out over a period of up to 5-years. Additionally, donors may make cumulative gifts to reach Silver, Gold, and Diamond member levels. For example, 5-years of giving at the Bronze level would qualify for Silver level membership.
Application Process
The donor fills out the James E. West Fellowship Application and returns it directly to the local council or the donor can complete this online. Both pledges and payments can be made online.
Recognition
Once payment of the gift has been received in full, our local council will request the appropriate James E. West recognition items from the National Organization and present them to the donor. New James E. West Fellows are recognized annually at our Council’s Recognition Banquet held in April.
