Adventure West Council

Unit Partnerships

The Adventure West Council is focused on finding a solution for your Scouting unit that works best for all parties. All Scouting is local and our Scouts benefit from the relationship between our partners and the volunteers that operate the unit’s program. In focusing on supporting our units, we offer various partnership methods that help ensure our Scouting units are active and thriving.

Please reach out to your Unit Commissioner, District Commissioner, or District Executive with any questions you may have.

Traditional Partnerships

This is our traditional and historic partnership model where the chartering organization desires to use the scouting program to further its mission respecting the youth it supports. The majority of our Scouting units are traditionally chartered.

Council Chartered Units

This is an option that can be used when a traditional partner cannot be secured or a traditional partner does not want to take on the full responsibilities of chartering the unit. Our local council charters the unit and approves the adult leaders and program. Our local Council provides a Certificate of Insurance for the entity that owns the location where the Scout unit meets. The Institution Head & Chartered Organization Representative will be assigned by our Council. Trailer Tags and Insurance are provided by the unit. Units will submit an annual Council Chartered Unit Report due on August 31st.

United Methodist Church & Catholic Partnerships

Scouting has a long-standing, strong, and mutually beneficial partnership with both the United Methodist Church (UMC) and Catholic Church. Together we have established the following agreements, specific to these Partners.

Option 1 - Traditional Charter

Maintain a traditional charter and partnership with the Parish or Church and utilize the Traditional Scouting Charter Agreement. The church approves the adult leaders and overall program.

Option 2 - Affiliated Partnership

The local Church or Parish becomes an affiliated partner providing a meeting location and storage space for gear. The Scouting unit is Chartered by our Council and the local Council approves the adult leaders.

Option 3 - Facility Use Agreement

The Scouting unit meets at the Church or Parish and will find a new Chartered Org. The BSA and Catholic Church Facility Use Agreement is used. The new Chartered Org fills out the New Unit Application and the Annual Charter Agreement. The Council may be the new chartered partner.
